ORC Kitchen Progress – Week 2

Hello!! Welcome back to week 2 of the One Room Challenge!

This week, so much has happened at the new house, and most of it happened in the kitchen. Let’s get right into it, because I’ve got to get back to packing.

Okay, when we last saw the kitchen, it looked like this…Kitchen Before

The first thing we had done in there was to take out the floors and cabinets – which is when we found out just how bad the cabinets were… Here you can see the sun bleached countertops and how aged everything really was. One Room Challenge - kitchen renovation - Pinterest Addict

After many days of dusty work, the cabinets and the floors were removed. ORC- Kitchen progress - no cabinets, no floors

The space felt so huge without anything in there. To be honest, we thought that the terrazzo floor that was in the rest of the house would be in the kitchen too, but it was just concrete in there – which was a major bummer. There is more of that pretty peach again! 😛

After much deliberation about what kind of floor to put in the areas without terrazzo, we went with bamboo engineered flooring. I love how it looks next to the terrazzo – the right amount of brown and a tiny bit of red.

Since we knew before the ORC started that we were doing the kitchen, we had already ordered the cabinets from Ikea, and they showed up. All 285 pieces! Since I love a good plan, we went through all the boxes and made piles for each cabinet and all it’s components and put them into the spots they would eventually “live” in. Kitchen renovation - Ikea cabinets

Just going through and sorting the boxes took us quite a few hours, but it was worth it to know everything was accounted for, and ready for installation.

And that’s where I’ll end for this week. Thanks for checking out our ORC Kitchen Progress… Head on over to Calling it Home to see what everyone else in the challenge completed this week.

Come back next week and see where we are in the process!

Eliesa

Oh my gosh you’re so brave to take on a full kitchen! Love the flooring choice, and love the cabinet organizing. I totally would’ve done that too 🙂

LOL! Yes, the sight of random piles of stuff all over the living room was making me a little claustrophobic – I HAD to organize it. I am hoping that it’s not more than I can pull off in six weeks! I’m kinda freaking out… :p

[…] When I last left you, we had gotten the floors installed, and sorted the Ikea kitchen boxes into nice little piles. Yeah, a lot has happened since then. Here’s what we’ve been doing for the past few weeks. […]
