Cleaning the Air – the Febreze Air Purifier

Have you ever thought about how to clean the air you breathe in your home, not just cover up the stink? The Febreze Air Purifier does just that.

Febreze air purifier - clean stinky smells from your house, don't just cover them up

We’ve basically got a small zoo here at our house – 4 dogs, 4 cats and a parrot – not to mention we have four kids too. Two of our dogs are senior dogs, and one of them (I’m not mentioning names… Brownie… cough, cough) passes gas toxic enough to choke a person, and the other one is just stinky. I wish I were kidding about the amount of stink they create. As for the cats, cleaning the two litter boxes is a daily chore my daughter hates with a passion, but has to be done to keep those odors from taking over the entire house.  Now, throw in a person (me) with a hyper-sensitive nose and allergies to fur, and you’ve got a problem on your hands.

The stinker – Brownie

One of the coolest parts of having a blog is that companies will contact me to do reviews of their products. If it’s something I can’t use, or something that I’ve tried before and it didn’t work, I’ll pass on their offer. But when it’s something I’ve been thinking about buying, then I hop on that opportunity. In this case, the makers of the Febreze Air Purifier contacted me and asked if I would be interested in participating in a review of one of their air purifiers. I was actually trying to figure out a solution to the lingering odors from Brownie and the cat litter boxes, so I said yes!

Frankie - snowshoe siamese

Our bathroom dweller, Frankie

When I received my sample, I was super excited to get it going near the litter box in the laundry room, which is just off the kitchen. It comes basically ready to go, you just have to remove the plastic bags off the filters, and open the scent pack and insert it in the space on top – then plug in and turn it on. Easy peasy. I turned it on to level 3, full speed, and waited for the miracle of a stink free house. Well, it didn’t quite happen that way, but I’m pretty sure it was due to the fact that our house is very “open concept”. While it did cut down on the smell of the litter box leaking into the kitchen area, where it is most prevalent, it didn’t do much beyond that direct space. Our great room is huge – kitchen, breakfast area, family room and pool table area – right next to the laundry room. It’s got to be a thousand square feet combined. The tower I have is supposed to cover a space of 170 square feet. So, you see the problem…

The lady of the bunch – Luci(fur).

Getting the litter box stink corralled is a thing of beauty, but I wanted to try it in a space closer in size to what it was designed for. So, I put it in our master bathroom, where one of our cats spends her days (and nights). Between regular bathroom smells, we also have a litter box in there, cat food and our dog Luci loves to hang out with Frankie (the cat) when we go out. It was a perfect place to put it to the test.

Febreze Air Purifier

Febreze Air Purifier

While the litter box in our bathroom does not have as much of a strong odor as the one in the laundry room (only one cat ever uses it), you can still smell it at the end of the day. After the purifier was on for about the first 8 hours, you could definitely smell a difference. It just smelled fresher and less stuffy. The scent cartridge isn’t so strong that it knocks you in the nose when you walk in, it just leaves a light scent in the air. Even though we have a bathroom overhead fan in there that we used to run all the time, it never smelled fresh in there. Now, we don’t run the overhead fan unless we are taking a shower, to take the moisture out of the air, but after using the purifier it smells so much cleaner in there.

Besides doing a great job of freshening up the bathroom, the Febreze Air Purifier has a few other key features:

  • HEPA-Type filter removes up to 99% of air pollutants, like garbage odors, cooking odors, pet odors and dander, smoke and household dust.
  • 3 air-cleaning levels
  • Freshness scent control dial
  • Automatic filter and scent replacement reminders ENERGY STAR® qualified
  • Available in 3 sizes: Tabletop, Mini Tower and Tower
  • Available nationwide at the suggested retail prices of $59.99-$89.99
  • Includes 1 linen & sky scent cartridge & can also be used w/ spring & renewal scent cartridge (sold separately).

Febreze air purifier - keeps the bathroom smelling fresh and cleanI’m considering buying a few of these bad boys for the great room area, they made that much of a recognizable difference in the bathroom that it would be worth it to keep the whole house smelling great.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
