Oh boy, what a week it has been! Here’s an update on the bathroom update and floor progress.
Tile throughout the house was demolished on Monday and Tuesday, as was the bathroom. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday brought 4 different tile guys to lay the tile. Yes, four. The “tile guy” we originally hired, who said he would be doing the work himself, didn’t lay a single piece of tile. Not one. He subbed it out to three different guys – none of which did a great job. On Friday, none of “his guys” showed up in the morning, so he called another guy. Apparently, this guy was actually his boss that he usually worked for. He actually did a great job laying the tile. He also confirmed my fears about the shoddy work the first guy was attempting to do in the bathroom. Thank god that I’ve watched so much of Mike Holmes’ shows to know when something isn’t being done right. I ended up firing the first guy and hiring his boss. Yeah, that wasn’t fun, but at least I feel a million times more comfortable with him.
Remember last week when I told you what kind of tiles we were using in the bathroom… yeah, well… I changed my mind.
I decided against the long subway tiles because they didn’t carry a bullnose pieces for them. Then, since I nixed those tiles, I decided not to use the “magic” tiles either. Back to Home Depot they went.
I went to Floor and Decor and picked out a 3 x 6 inch marble subway tile for the walls. And then decided against them too once I got them home and put them next to the small hexagon tiles for the floor. Too many small tiles going on. I thought it would be too busy.
At this point, both my husband and I were sick of looking at tile, but back to Floor and Decor we went. Right away, my husband was drawn to the Caribbean Green Marble hexagon mosaic sheets for the shower floor tile.
We had seen an episode of Sarah’s House, where she did a master bathroom with Ming Green marble tiles and we loved how it looked.
This tile is similar in color, and beautiful in real life. Then we picked coordinating small subway tiles to use as a boarder on the bigger hexagons. The ones in the link are the most like what we bought, but ours are slightly green. Now… if we could just figure out what to use on the walls of the shower.
In the middle of all this craziness going on, we decided to forge ahead and do the kitchen too. So, last night, we went to order our new cabinets at Ikea. We went with every intention of buying a white kitchen, like this…
– and left having bought a black one. WHAT?!! I’m currently having a small panic attack over it. They are the Ramsjo black/brown cabinets.
If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that while I try to figure out the shower wall tile, I’ve been busy painting ceilings in the laundry room, hallway and guest bathroom. I can’t believe I waited this long to do it. It makes each space seem so much brighter. I also painted all the baseboards today too. I feel like I’ve got a million projects to finish, and only a few weeks before Thanksgiving to do it! Eek! So, what do you think about our bathroom update and floor progress?
Gotta go. Besides all the projects, my kids still want to eat. Imagine that!
Eliesa

I’m so scared it will be too dark! Do you have pics of your white kitchen?
Cori says
Yes, I love it, it’s safe though, and your choice is very inspiring! I live in the rainy state so were always looking for lighter colors to make up for the gray 🙂

Of course, I just emailed them!
