Do you know my friend Kirby? She blogs over at Kirb Appeal. I met her at the first Haven Conference, and I adore her. She asked me to be part of this blog tour – and I said yes, sure… and then, I forgot about it. In my day to day life, things are always coming up, butting in, taking over. It happens all the time to me. Does that ever happen to you? When I saw her post this morning, I jumped out of bed and got to work! Hmmm… maybe I should have her call me out on getting some other posts done… 🙂
We are supposed to answer some questions about us and our blog, so here goes…
1. What Are You Working On Right Now?
Right now, we are trying to figure out the financing for replacing the floors throughout the house, a remodel of the kitchen and the guest bathroom. Why are we doing all of this at the same time? Because we are bat-sh*t crazy. No really, we are.
The floors flow throughout the entire house, except for the bedrooms and two of the bathrooms. We were eventually planning to replace the kitchen, but not quite yet. But every single person that gave us an estimate on the floors told us it would be better to have the floors done in the kitchen at the same time, so we wouldn’t have issues with changing the layout later. The floors don’t go under the cabinets now, just up to the kickplates. So, we added a kitchen remodel to the plan. Then we realized that it would also call for the guest bathroom to be re-done at the same time – same reasons, on a smaller scale. And as for the floors – we are going with a wood tile, that is laid in a herringbone pattern, which is the most expensive way to lay floor tiles. Of course.
So you see, it was a sort-of affordable project took on epic proportions from there… Let’s just say we are in saving mode, and all things are on hold.
2. How Does My Work Differ From Others in This Genre?
Well, this little blog was started to report on the pins I tried on Pinterest. That was the plan, anyway. But I found I was trying too many pins that I didn’t really use in my real-life. For instance, I tried the whole faux mercury glass vases, but then ended up with a bunch of vases that I neither had places for, or the desire to really have in my house. But it sure was fun trying it out. As you can imagine, that kind of thing got expensive. So, now I just try the pins that pertain to me, or our house. Or the kids…
By the way, that picture isn’t from my post – it links back to the original pin. My vases didn’t turn out that well! LOL!
I also do a lot of furniture re-finishing, which doesn’t make me different, does it? I guess… I’m not really all that different. Except for the fact that I’m me, and I tell my stories the way I want to, when I want to. I’m not worried about acquiring a massive following, or causing an uproar over my amazing ability to use all thrifted items to redecorate my house, although I am getting really good at it! I am a fly by the seat of my pants kind of writer/blogger. And that makes me different from most of the bloggers I know.
3. Why Do I Write/Create What I do?
Want to know the real truth to this? It’s because I get bored pretty easily. And I have project A.D.D. I figure if I have a blog on which I report on my finished projects or experiments, it will hold me accountable. It doesn’t always work out that way, but it keeps me motivated… except when it’s 100 degrees outside, with 95% humidity. Then, there isn’t much that will get me to go outside and pull apart pallets. And that kind of weather happens around here (South Florida) for 6 months out of the year. Okay, maybe not that long, but it feels like it.
I love having a project, changing a room, making something pretty. I’m not artistically talented; I can barely draw a straight line with a ruler. But I do like working with my hands, making old, ugly, beat up furniture usable again, and let’s face it, having someone to show these little creations to is great. I mean, my husband can only get so excited about yet another piece of furniture that I’ve painted, ya know?
4. How Does Your Writing/Creating Process Work?
I don’t follow a schedule. I don’t have any rules for my posting. I report back on projects when they are done. And honestly, I don’t post as much as I should. I am always thinking I will wait to post about a project until the rest of the room is done. Or when I can take pictures with my “real” camera. So, I have lots of finished projects that just haven’t had their moment in the spotlight. I really should make a list of priorities in the house and try to follow it. So, to answer the question, I don’t have a process. It just happens. Or it doesn’t.
So, that’s it for me today. Thanks, Kirby, for inviting me to take part in this fabulous tour!
I’m sending you on to my friend, Scottie. Her blog is Saved by Scottie – and unlike me, she is crazy artistic. And she is trying like mad to get her TV show off the ground and on to your screen! Go check out her blog and fabulous creations.
Thanks for stopping by!
