Dark floors, white walls
Do you follow me on Pinterest? If you don’t, why not?! I pin lots of awesome things. 😛 If you do follow me there, then maybe you’ve seen my new board, Dark Floors White Walls. It’s full of beautiful spaces. Go check it out, I’ll wait…
Quite a stunning look isn’t it?
For quite a while now, almost three years, we’ve been debating what kind of flooring we should put in the main part of the house. Right now, we have a cream colored tile through out the house, except in the bedrooms. If you don’t remember what it looks like, here’s a picture from when I painted the floor tile at the front door and around the fireplace.

I know it’s hard to see it in that picture, but there are cracks in the tile throughout the house. It needs to be replaced, but we can’t decide with what yet.
When we moved into this house, we had the carpet that was in the bedrooms replaced with a medium/dark engineered hardwood. I love the look of hardwood, but with so many animals in the house, I’m not sure they would hold up to all the nails… This doesn’t stop me from lusting after the look though.
I love how it looks with white walls, and black doors…

And I love how they look in a white kitchen…

I would love for our kitchen to look like that one day… I think the dark floors makes it feel warm and homey, instead of cold and sterile.
Now, we’ve also discussed using a porcelain tile that looks like Carrara marble throughout the  house too, but I’m afraid that it might look too “rich and fancy” for a house that is more comfortable than pretentious. I think my husband is leaning towards the marble, and I guess I’m leaning towards the dark wood look.

marble floors – we wouldn’t use a cream tile, we’d use one that is white with gray
Ahhhh!! I’ve been sitting on this fence for way too long, and I just want to jump off to one side already!
What do you think? Do you love the look of wood floors throughout the entire house? Or would you go with something lighter? And, if I did go with the dark floors – what do you think of white walls throughout the main living spaces too? Is it too trendy? Too stark?

They both look stunning! I understand what you mean about wood and nails. Plus dark floors will show all of the pet hair. Well I guess it depends on the color. I wouldn’t care what’s trendy or not, go with what you love! But a marble”ly” pattern will hide a multitude of “sins” 🙂 I know you’ll pick something gorgeous!!

I tried looking for tiles that look like the wood floors we have in the bedrooms, so they would hold up better to the dogs, but nothing matches. I do so love the look of dark wood… I need to find a program that will show my house with the different floor options. I think the marble would look good too, and hide the mess… 🙂

Eliesa, gorgeous pictures to choose from! I lean towards the dark wood floors myself. I’m thinking that putting more tile (even if it is different from what you have now) would not be enough of a change in the look to go through all of the trouble (and expense) of changing out the flooring.

Just stumbled across this post looking for inspiration on doing dark floors throughout the new house we just bought.
I see this is a few years old what did you end up doing?

We ended up tiling the floors with wood look tile, which was a medium brown. You can see the in-progress shots here: https://www.apinterestaddict.com/2015/01/23/progress-made-the-wood-look-tile-floors/
We also used those tiles in the next house, with light gray walls. I loved it.
